Cool, Green Nurseries

July 7, 2010; 6:00 am by Joyce Slaton

Pink-and-brown is soooo 2005. Usher in a groovy new green sensibility with these kid’s room picks.

city-glider1.jpgSpecially made for space-cramped city apartments, designer Jennifer DeLonge’s City Glider is a scaled-down and very cool version of the big, dorky-looking gliders you find in baby’s department stores. It’s not cheap ($999 to $1,599 for the glider, depending on which fabric you choose, plus another $399 to $699 for the ottoman), but neither is the construction, lush fabric, colors, or style. jenniferdelonge.com

Next, convincing kids to clear up clutter is sometimes all about giving them a place to ditch it. Thus, p’kolino’s beautiful Clothes Tree in green gives kids permission to come in and fling their jacket onto a branch. The tree is sturdily tip-proof and constructed of birch laminated fiber board. $80, clevertomato.com

bloom-alma.jpgYet another clever space-saver for city dwellers, Bloom Baby’s Alma Bloom Urban Cot/Crib is bitty and compact to begin with. But then it takes that tininess to new heights with collapsible hinges in the middle of the crib that allow parents to fold the crib and shove it, oh, in the trunk when you’re going on a trip to the Grands’ house, or into a closet when you have guests coming over. $400, spunkysprout.com
