The World’s Comfiest Pajamas for Mama

Thursday, December 15th, 2011

cashmere.jpgIt’s a long, cold winter, and if you know a mama who’s spending a lot of time at home, maybe pulling out a boob every few minutes to jam in an infant’s mouth, a set of luxurious pajamas sure hits the spot. They’re expensive, but there is no more luxe option than Frontgate’s cashmere set.

With traditional menswear styling and fabric that’s as soft as a cloud, these are the pajamas no one ever wants to take off. Everyone’s worn cotton pajamas, of course, and they can be either crisp or soft, depending on age and the quality of the cotton. This is another level of softness and comfort, caressing your body from neck to ankle.

Another bonus for nursing moms: The buttons are high-quality, with smooth edges, and well-stitched buttonholes that make the PJ top very easy to button and unbutton. Just make sure the milk stains go elsewhere.

Designs Like a Fever Dream From Your Childhood

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

bygraziela.jpgRemember your favorite childhood outfit, with its bright, primary color patterns? It’s back. Literally. Graziela Preiser, the German designer responsible for some of the most iconic, influential prints of the 1970s, is reintroducing a line of children’s clothing and housewares using the very same patterns. It’s retro that looks fresh, with bright and busy bed linens, wall hangings, pajamas, and mugs.

byGraziela’s bedding (pictured) is particularly choice: it comes with one big pillowcase and one small one, perfect for sharing a bed with a lovey, or for parent/kid cosleeping. Fabrics and construction are up to the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 (the same standards that Hanna Andersson and other Scandanavian designers adhere to), so they’re soft, durable, and luscious.

Pajama Game

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

redpajamas400.jpgYour family holiday tradition of wearing festive pajamas never gets old. The kids look forward to a new pair, and you love picking out the cutest ones each year.

Little shining stars will stay that way in these classically cool PJs from Elephant Couture, a new kids’ clothing line from celebrity photographer Leslie Hassler. Global travel inspired these cotton designs (conceptualized in New York and manufactured in India) that are made with all-natural fibers and colorfast ties to keep it green. The collection maintains a funky bohemian style, from India ink dresses to patch T-shirts. And kids will find a new friend in the sweet handmade toys, from giraffes and hippos to of course, an elephant.

Don’t forget.

Wear Your Veggies

new-jammies1.jpgMost kids don’t like vegetables. The thinking behind New Jammies’ line of veg- and fruit-themed books and sleepwear goes If we can get them to cozy up to produce, they’ll like it. Having made my daughter fleece carrots and cabbage toys to no effect whatever, I wish them luck. No matter: the pajama prints are darling, lovely ’50s-looking line-drawing prints of oranges, pea pods, tomatoes on a plain white background.

New Jammies uses soft organic cotton and a book featuring the same drawings as the PJs is included with each purchase. Who knows, maybe it’ll work for you. Or maybe you’ll just enjoy looking at your edible child.
