When Breast is Best

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

ymummy-logo-happybf.jpgPumping and dumping, latching, proper positioning — you’re learning all the techniques, but breastfeeding is not going so swimmingly.

Stop by Yummy Mummy, a just-opened uptown boutique that focuses on everything related to breastfeeding. This full-service, one-stop-shop for new and expectant parents focuses on nursing products and resources, as well as classes on lactation-related topics taught by Certified Lactation Consultants. From nursing bras and pads to books and DVDs, the specialty store run by an UES native and mother is all about making the breastfeeding experience a little easier.

Designer Original

picture-023.jpgYou used to be a perfect size whatever, but the addition of a baby bump means that even pregnancy duds do not fit properly. Add the stress of an upcoming wedding, charity event or impress-the-boss dinner, and you’ve really got nothing to wear.

Try something that fits like a glove. Stylish Soho maternity shop Rosie Pope just launched a create-your-own collection of its popular Salon Knits. Dresses, available in six short and long styles, are fitted to your fabulously pregnant frame, then customized with anything from basic black to a spring-like green or lilac (just give it a 10-day turnaround). These made-to-order frocks are around $500, depending on the style — the price is nothing to scoff at, but neither is your figure.

Feeling Fierce

Friday, November 7th, 2008

fuschialoclose.jpgBananas: Rachel Zoe. Major: Victoria Beckham. Fabulousity: Kimora Lee Simmons.

Lately every fashionista has a declaration du jour. Anyone who watched Project Runway last season knows that winner Christian Siriano’s buzzword is “fierce” (as are his designs). He’s now bringing that mojo to moms-to-be in his new collaboration with maternity brand Moody Mamas. Fierce Mamas for Moody Mamas includes dresses, skirts, jackets and tops that help your pregnant self look chic enough to hit the town regardless of trimester.

The holiday collection (think festive and fetching) is available for pre-order tomorrow at Belly Dance Maternity. Siriano and Moody Mamas founders Marta Abrams and Elise Rosemarin will be on hand to show you how to best dress your belly for the upcoming social season.

And don’t forget the fierce.

When: Sat. 11/8, 12-2pm.
Where: Belly Dance Maternity, 548 Hudson St., 212-645-3640, bellydancematernity.com.

Coming Up Rosie

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

rosie-pope01.jpgWho are those women who claim they feel sexier than ever during pregnancy? You just feel bloated and tired. Maybe a change of clothes will alter your mindset.

Rosie Pope Maternity just opened a downtown store stocked with all the fun RTW gems you pranced around town in pre-preggo. Founder Rosie Pope, a former professional dancer and model, is into fabulousity. If you’re cruising the benefit circle this fall (or dressing up for holiday entertaining at home), you’ll be pleased to find a selection of evening dresses that are actually of-the-season — plus silk trenches and cashmere cardigans you might even wear when the 40 weeks are over.

Feeling better now?
